In 2024, Chezacut Ranch and Outfittering was acquired by the Tl’etinqox Nation, marking a significant moment of return, responsibility, and renewal. The ranch is now wholly Nation-owned and operated, guided by Tl’etinqox laws, values, and long-term vision for land stewardship, food security, and economic self-determination.

Guiding and outfitting activities on Chezacut Ranch now operate within this renewed framework of Tsilhqot’in stewardship. Visitors are welcomed as guests on the land, with an expectation of respect for the territory, its wildlife, and its cultural significance. Hunting here is not only a recreational activity, but part of a living relationship with the land that carries responsibility, restraint, and gratitude. By visiting and engaging with this place, guests are entering a landscape shaped by thousands of years of Tsilhqot’in presence and a future guided by Tl’etinqox leadership, care, and connection to the land.

Chezacut Ranch and Outfitters is located within the traditional territory of the Tsilhqot’in people, specifically the Tl’etinqox Nation(Anaham) which is one of the 6 Tsilhqot’in Nations, located along the Chilcotin River west of Williams Lake.  The people of Tl’etinqox have lived, travelled, hunted, and governed within this region long before colonial
boundaries were imposed. The Tŝilhqot’in National Government represents six main Tŝilhqot’in communities:
Tl’etinqox (Anaham), Tŝideldel (Redstone), Yuneŝit’in (Stone), Xeni Gwet’in (Nemiah), ʔEsdilagh (Alexandria) and Tl’esqox (Toosey).

In 2014, the Tsilhqot’in Nation became the first in Canada to have Aboriginal Title legally recognized by the Supreme Court of Canada, affirming what Tsilhqot’in people have always known: this is Tsilhqot’in land. That recognition continues to shape how land use, economic activity, and cultural responsibilities are carried forward today.

For the Tsilhqot’in Nation, the land is not a resource to be extracted, but a living system governed by responsibility, respect, and reciprocity. Hunting, fishing, gathering, and careful stewardship have always been central to Tsilhqot’in life, shaping knowledge systems that continue to guide how this territory is cared for today.

For generations, Tsilhqot’in members continued to hunt, travel, and maintain relationships with the land in and around the Chezacut area, even as access and decision-making were constrained by external ownership and regulation. The landscape itself holds stories, trails, and places of meaning that predate ranch boundaries and remain important today.
